Kleinkinderchor is the preparatory choir for the CMC Community Kinderchor, grades K-3rd. It is structured but full of a variety of different musical activities.
Kleinkinderchor choristers meet for 30 minutes on Tuesday afternoons. Rehearsals emphasize finding the high, natural singing voice, listening and imitating rhythmic patterns, singing English and German folk songs and hymns, and singing/using hand gestures in Solfeg. Kleinkinderchor also regularly uses percussion instruments with their songs and spoken chants, which encourages them to internalize rhythm and to experiment with improvisation. Choristers have great fun with body movement in many of their songs.
In addition to singing, there always at least one “activity day” each semester, where students get to do something completely different, such as create a craft that relates to a song that they are singing, or explore different ways to create music (such as blowing tones through a bottle). Such activities connect the songs to their creative imaginations and encourage musical exploration and listening.
Kleinkinderchor performs once a semester, normally at a retirement center, along with the CMC Kinderchor.
